First points of the battle between Jose vs Pep went in Pep Guardiola's favour as City ran out winners against United in a closely fought encounter at Old Trafford. City won 2-1 thanks to first-half goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Kelechi Iheanacho.
United came back into the game thanks to a Zlatan Ibrahimovic volley but could not find an equaliser as the Red Devils finished on the losing side for the first time this season.
City were completely outplaying their rivals in the first half as Guardiola showed his prowess over his old competitor. Mourinho's team selection proved wrong as Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan failed to have much impact.
Claudio Bravo too, made some crucial mistakes as his debut in the Premier League was not at all memorable for the Chilean. Let's take a look at the player ratings from the close fought Manchester derby:
Manchester United
David De Gea: 6/10
The Spaniard kept two clean sheets before this game but was not at fault for both the goals conceded. The 25-year-old played one exquisite pass to Ander Herrera in the second half.
Antonio Valencia: 5.5/10
Valencia made some errors at the start but improved his performance late in the game. Kevin de Bruyne and Nolito completely outplayed the fullback.
Eric Bailly: 5.5/10
New signing Bailly was at fault for the first goal as he left Iheanacho, who freely won the ball from Kolarov's long ball. He made some rash challenges which resulted in a booking for the youngster.
Daley Blind: 5.5/10
The Dutchman was the man at fault for City's second goal as he played Iheanacho onside for a simple tap in. Blind lost many aerial duels as City completely dominated United's defence in the first half.
Luke Shaw: 6/10
Shaw was United's best defender as he kept Leroy Sane silent to some extent in the second period. The youngster could not offer much offensively.
Marouane Fellaini: 5.5/10
The loose armed Belgian played well in patches as he tried to make an impact on the game. His performances under Mourinho though have proved Fellaini has a future at United. He got a yellow card in the second half.
Paul Pogba: 5/10
Pogba was the worst player on the pitch as he hardly did anything worth remembering. The Frenchman did little too much everytime he got the ball and also was beaten easily while defending.
Jesse Lingard: 5/10
The youngster was given his first start in the new campaign but was dubbed rightly off at half time as he was poor in possession and could not start any important attack.
Wayne Rooney: 6.5/10
A respectable performance from the captain, but he received a booking for a late challenge on Claudio Bravo. Rooney had started to look as a liability for both club and country, but in this match, he was one of the few better performers from United.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan: 5/10
First start for the Armenian this campaign but could not prove Mourinho wrong in not giving him starts earlier in the season. He must get used to the physicality of the league soon.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic: 6.5/10
The Swede scored his fourth goal in his fourth league game but had many good chances to equalise for the Red Devils. He too received a caution for clipping Nicolas Otamendi from behind.
Substitutions:
Marcus Rashford: 6.5/10
His introduction brought much-needed urgency from United as he has made his case even stronger for a start next week.
Ander Herrera: 6/10
Herrera replaced the disappointing Mkhitaryan and kept the play ticking nicely during his cameo.
Anthony Martial: N/A
Martial played just last few minutes as he should have introduced far earlier in the game.
Manchester City
Claudio Bravo: 5.5/10
Bravo was lucky that United could not capitalise on his mistakes. He passed the ball effectively on most occasions as Bravo is going to be ab effective player for City.
Bacary Sagna: 6.5/10
Sagna's display have shown that he will keep Zabaleta out of the side. He recovered the ball well and was also good in possession.
Nicolas Otamendi : 7.5/10
The Argentine kept Ibrahimovic quiet for the majority of the game and was the best defender on the pitch.
John Stones: 7/10
First important game of the season and Stones lived up to his expectations. He was unfazed by the occasion of a derby and played his part to perfection.
Aleksandr Kolarov: 6.5/10
Kolarov played his part well as his sharp deliveries was a constant threat for United.
Fernandinho: 8/10
One of the best players on the pitch, Fernandinho played one of his best games in a City shirt. He completely dominated the midfield as City won the midfield battle.
David Silva: 7/10
Silva was the captain on the night and he played an important role for Guardiola's side. Silva had never done so much defensive work until now, but under the new manager, he has improved defensively.
Kevin De Bruyne: 8.5/10
The Belgian was unlucky not to score a brace against the Red Devils. He ran United's defense ragged as he totally ran the show for Man City.
Nolito: 7/10
Nolito was decent for the visiting side as he stretched the defense on many occasions and provided many key passes.
Raheem Sterling: 6.5/10
The Englishman started the game brightly but faded as the game went on.
Kelechi Iheanacho: 7.5/10
The youngster became City's youngest ever scorer in the Derby. He scored one and assisted one as it became a memorable Derby for the 19-year-old.

Fernando: 6.5/10
He was brought on to bring solidity late in the second half and he did just that in his cameo.
Leroy Sane: 7/10
The youngster made his debut in the Premier League and created two chances in his half-hour appearance. He looks yet another exciting talent in the league.

The Argentine was brought on in the dying minutes of the game and did nothing worth mentioning.
