New season, the same mood for the Citizens

#3 A 36-year-old Petr Cech vs the Petr Cech we are all used to

Stoke City v Arsenal - Premier League
Is it time to call it quits?

This one is a little painful as a Chelsea fan as well, but the writing is on the wall. Well, the writing has been on the wall for quite some time now, and Arsenal have just been refusing to acknowledge that.

Now that they have acquired a new keeper, it is ridiculous that they still want to pursue that.

Petr Cech is old. At 36 years of age, he is far from his prime and the reflexes are the first thing to go as you get older.

For a keeper, that is an enormous problem. A close look at the Sterling goal will reveal that it was not, in fact, a picture-perfect pass to the bottom right corner but a very savable one - at least for a keeper with more agility.

Not to mention the fact that Emery's teams are usually constructed from the back and he requires his keeper to play the ball instead of booting it up-field. Unfortunately, his feet have never been Cech's strong point.

Now, Cech is still an excellent shot stopper, as we got to see today with saves against Laporte and Aguero.

But under pressure from the opposition, Cech is prone to show bad judgement as was exhibited from his almost-own-goal tonight.

There is no doubt that Cech will go down as one of the greatest ever Premier League keepers, and a Chelsea legend in his own right. But the truth has to be acknowledged.

Arsenal has the resources to do that now, and they should start slowly incorporating Leno into the squad as quickly as they can.
