Manchester City v Southampton FC - Carabao Cup Round of 16

Manchester City host Southampton at the Etihad Stadium for the second time in four days, this time in the Premier League. Pep Guardiola's side registered a comfortable 3-1 victory over the Saints in the Carabao Cup and the reigning Premier League champions head into the game as overwhelming favourites.

Southampton made history for all the wrong reasons last weekend, as their 9-0 drubbing at the hands of Leicester City pushed them into the relegation zone. In doing so, the Foxes registered the biggest away victory in Premier League history, a result that sent shock-waves across Europe.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's side will be eager to respond after their embarrassing capitulation last week but have their work cut out for them, as they face last season's treble winners.

Key match facts

Manchester City have won the last five meetings between the two sides.

Southampton have won just one of their last six games in all competitions.

The Cityzens have not lost to Southampton at home since 2004.

Team news

John Stones is fully-fit once again and the Englishman is expected to be named in the starting XI straightaway to help ease his side's ongoing defensive crisis. He is set to start in the heart of the defence alongside Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho could be restored to his preferred defensive midfield position, as Rodri will be out with a hamstring issue.

Joao Cancelo and Benjamin Mendy impressed as the Cityzens got the better of Aston Villa last weekend and the pair are expected to earn recalls, after being rested for the league cup tie against the same opponents midweek.
