Mesut Ozil in action

It was another enthralling weekend for the majority of the Premier League title challengers. Ending their two-game winless run, Manchester United battled until the very end to pick three points against third-place Tottenham Hotspur.

A Mesut Ozil inspired Arsenal continued their mini-resurgence as they toppled a fighting Swansea side 2-1 at the Emirates. League leaders Manchester City made it nine wins in ten in the league as they showcased their attacking prowess in a 3-2 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

In a game where two foes took on each other, it was Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool outfit that beat David Wagner's newly-promoted Huddersfield Town side. It took the Reds a while to get going, but once they did, goals weren't hard to come by as they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.

Take a look at Sportskeeda's team of the week (4-2-3-1):

Goalkeeper: David de Gea (Manchester United)

After yet another superlative display in goal, Manchester United and Spain number one David de Gea makes it into our team of the week. The Spaniard looked ever so comfortable while receiving the ball and also showed tremendous confidence while reaching out to collect crosses played into the box. To add to that, he made four impressive saves on the night and kept the likes of Dele Alli and Song Heung-min at bay.

Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Chris Smalling had his best game of the season against Spurs

Right-back: Joe Gomez (Liverpool)

Jurgen Klopp's decision to start Joe Gomez ahead of Trent Alexander Arnold against Huddersfield Town paid off. A centre-back by trade, Gomez adapted to his new role seamlessly and nullified the opposition threat on the right side of the defence. Seldom did he offer any width to the Huddersfield players, and made a valid case for his regular inclusion.

Centre-back: Chris Smalling (Manchester United)

Playing at the heart of Manchester United's back three, it was Chris Smalling's chance to silence his critics, and that is exactly what he did. Apart from being exceptional at distributing possession, he was also impressive in his defensive actions - making a remarkable nine clearances and four interceptions. He was also a menace in the air, winning three crucial aerial duels in the defensive third.

Centre-back: James Tomkins (Crystal Palace)

Stepping in to replace a defender of Mamadou Sakho is no mean task, but Crystal Palace centre-back James Tomkins was up to the challenge. His phenomenal aerial prowess forced West Ham revert to an indirect brand of football. He defended with his heart and soul, and on another day, could have ended up on the winning side.

Left-back: Sead Kolasinac (Arsenal)

Signed as a free agent, Kolasinac is already worth a lot to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. The former Schalke left-back put up another fine showing for the Gunners at left wingback. Not only did he look assured defensively, but contributed a great deal on the offensive end. Despite being a defender, he played a role in both of his side's goals by scoring one and assisting the other.

AFC Bournemouth v Chelsea - Premier League
Eden Hazard was a thorn in Bournemouth's side on Saturday

Central midfield: Fernandinho (Manchester City)

Fernandinho's presence in midfield gave the likes of David Silva and Kevin de Bruyne the freedom to wreak havoc in the opposition penalty area. The Brazilian did a fantastic job at shielding the defence, and due to the high line played by City, he found himself in attacking positions as well. He played a role in two of his side's three goals on the day, and was undoubtedly one of the best performers of the weekend.

Central midfield: Steven Davis (Southampton)

Despite sharing the spoils with Brighton, Southampton midfielder Steven Davis has a lot to be proud of. His performance against the Seagulls gave the Saints that creativity in the middle of the park that they have lacked all season. To cap it all up, Davis found the back of the net and was his side's on goal scorer on the day.

Attacking midfield: Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

Given the games Leroy Sane and Eden Hazard had, it is unfair to pick just one of the two. Thus, Hazard occupies a more central position in our team compared to where he usually begins games for Chelsea.

Against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, it was due to Hazard's creativity as to why Chelsea came away with three points. The Belgian managed to find gaping holes in the Cherries defence and exploited the flaws in their defensive line. He made a total of seven key passes on the day with an accuracy close to 90 percent and also scored the all-important goal to hand his side a vital three points.

Manchester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers - Carabao Cup Fourth Round
Leroy Sane has been involved in more league goals than any other player this season

Right-wing: Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)

Regardless of what has been said about Mesut Ozil of late, he hasn't let it affect his performances on the field. On Saturday against Swansea, the German was once again Gunners' best attacking option and looked to make things tick in the final third for the hosts. It was due to his incision why Arsenal got back into the game and went on to eventually seal the game.

Left-wing: Leroy Sane (Manchester City)

Leroy Sane has been an absolute beast for Manchester City this season. With only 10 games in, he has already found the back of the net on six occasions and has provided another five assists to his name. Even against West Brom, the German looked unstoppable down the left. Linking with De Bruyne and Silva, Sane created chaos in and around the opposition penalty area, and was arguably the best performer on the day.

Striker: Javier Hernandez (West Ham)

West Ham controlled proceedings against Crystal Palace over the weekend, but fail to get the job done in what was an early season relegation six-pointer. Despite them being shambles at the back, the Hammers looked menacing going forward and it was all due to Javier Hernandez. Apart from scoring a goal, his movement was exemplary. Criticised for being a poacher, Chicharito played slightly deeper this time around, got involved in the build-up, and had an impressive game in total for the London outfit.
