Premier League transfer news: Sanchez close to Manchester United, Andy Carroll to Chelsea and more, 15th January 2018

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal - Premier League
United are close to acquiring him

In today's mill, we have a quite a bit of news as we're mid-way through the transfer window.

So, without further ado, here are the best rumours of the day!

#5 Burnley and Swansea

Burnley and Swansea are two clubs with contrasting fortunes this season. Burnley are 7th in the league while Swansea find themselves at the bottom with a real chance of being relegated. The Clarets would like to hold their spot while the Swans are determined to get out of the danger zone.

As a result, January transfers are a necessity. According to HITC, Burnley are on the lookout for a winger and have targeted Brighton’s Solly March. Despite the fact that manager Sean Dyche has already added Tottenham’s Kevin-Georges NKoudou to his ranks, he wants another winger after losing Robbie Brady to injury.

Meanwhile, Swansea are looking for a striker to get them out of their rut and have targeted Kevin Gameiro, according to the Sun. The Swans have scored only 14 times in 23 games and need a hitman to help them out of their quandary.

#4 Crystal's Palace have room for more

ACF Fiorentina v FC Internazionale - Serie A
Palace have room for Babacar

I have just followed something. While Manchester United are the most active club in the rumours section, being linked with around a million player thus far, among the midtable/lower midtable clubs, Crystal Palace seem to be one of the most active ones.

They are actively looking for a striker and, according to the Guardian, they are now closing in on Fiorentina super sub, Khouma Babacar. According to the report, negotiations began at £15 million last week for Babacar.

That’s not all from Palace as there is some update regarding Ibrahim. According to the Sun, Palace have made a loan offer for the Lille defender and the French club have rejected it. However, the Sun also believe that Palace could try again for the defender.

#3 North London

Manchester United v Derby County - The Emirates FA Cup Third Round
Mkhitaryan interests Arsenal

Obviously, Arsenal are about to lose their star man Alexis Sanchez, so it is only natural for them to look at players to replace him. And one of them in Bordeaux’s Malcom. When asked about his interest in the Brazilian, Wenger was quoted saying, by L’Equipe, that there is “nothing concrete” regarding him.

Meanwhile, The Guardian have stated in this report that Arsenal are interested in Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Makes sense because the Gunners will need to replace Alexis Sanchez, won’t they?!

In other North London news, according to the Mirror’s live transfer blog (January 14, 20.39), Tottenham could complete their first signing of the winter in the form of Stevenage’s highly talented youngster, Ben Wilmot, who is actually being eyed by a host of Premier League clubs including Liverpool and Southampton.

#2 The other London

West Ham United v Arsenal - Premier League
Carroll to have another shot at a top club?

Chelsea are still interested in signing Andy Carroll as they seek someone to manage the workload with Alvaro Morata, say the Telegraph. The Blues are currently struggling to score goals with Morata having scored only twice since September.

And Conte apparently doesn’t have much faith in Michy Batshuayi and, as a result, has targeted Carroll.

Speaking of West Ham, TEAMtalk believe that the London outfit are after the signature of Spanish defender Jonny Castro. The Celta Vigo defender has been in fine form this season and is being courted by Atletico Madrid and AS Roma.

The report states that the Spanish outfit are looking for “£14 million-plus” for the defender and the Hammers will need to pay in that range.

#1 Manchester madness

Arsenal v Hull City - Premier League
Another RvP on cards?

Well, well, this is what we call a twist, isn’t it? For most of the last couple of months, Manchester City were the favourites to land Alexis Sanchez at the Etihad. Everything pointed towards that. However, the tables have turned in the favour of Manchester United now.

According to the Independent, the Old Trafford outfit were priced out of the negotiations by the Etihad outfit. Apparently, United are willing to accept all the demands of Arsenal as well as pay £400,000-per-week to the player.

However, Sky Sports have now claimed that Chelsea have made a late swoop for Sanchez as well. The report suggests that The Blues have only shown interest and are yet to make a formal offer for him.
