Premier League transfer news: Aubameyang to Arsenal, Guardiola wants Umtiti and more, 4th January 2018

Real Madrid CF v Borussia Dortmund - UEFA Champions League
Wenger wants Aubameyang to replace Sanchez

One would have thought that once the window opened, the rumours would flow in like the river Nile, but so far, the opposite has happened. Rumours seem to have dried up after an initial gush. Nevertheless, there are still some things here and there and that is what I have picked up for you.

So without further ado, here are the best rumours of the day…

#5 Everton agree fee for Cenk Tosun

England v Turkey - International Friendly
Tosun could finally move to Goodison Park

This might finally be happening after all. Sam Allardyce might finally get the striker he so craved for over the last month. There have been a number of rumours about Tosun joining the Toffees, but nothing concrete happened until today.

Just some days ago, it was reported that Everton won’t go over £25 million for the hitman, but it seems as though the Goodison Park outfit had to make adjustments to their budgets and have increased their offer by £2 million.

According to Sky sources, Everton and Besiktas have agreed a £27 million deal for the striker, who is expected to fly to England to complete his medicals.

#4 Update on Amadou and the Saints raid

Celtic v Rangers - Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership
The Dutchman's replacement?

Yesterday, I wrote in this space that Crystal Palace are interested in bringing Ibrahim Amadou to the club. Today, there has been an update and it is from L’Equipe. According to the outlet, the French side are ready to sell, but want more than what Palace are offering.

It was reported that the English side offered £10 million for the midfielder, but Lille want close to £17 million to get the deal over the line.

Meanwhile, Celtic’s Erik Sviatchenko is on the radar of Southampton, who are actively pursuing a defender to replace the departed Virgil van Dijk, claim Celstarehere. The defender is not a starter for the Scottish giants, which means he is quite gettable.

#3 Chelsea and Newcastle

Crystal Palace v Watford - Premier League
Deeney could be the answer to Newcastle's scoring woes

Today is a day where the top clubs are more on the news that anyone else. While Chelsea and Newcastle might be contrasting when it comes to stature, the one thing that binds them is Rafa Benitez, as he also coached the Blues around 2 years ago.

Anyways, it is being reported that Antonio Conte, who recently claimed that he rarely gets the players that he wishes for, has targeted Villarreal midfielder Manu Trigueros, say El Gol Digital. It is reported that he could be available for as much as £30 million.

Moving on, Newcastle are said to be close to Watford captain Troy Deeney, say ESPN. The Magpies have only scored 20 times in 22 games and really want someone who could add goals to their setup.

#2 Arsenal’s aura

Denmark v Sweden - UEFA Under21 European Championship 2015
An answer to Arsenal's defensive problems?

Sometimes, when everyone else moving forward at quick speed, the one that is sleeping opens their eyes and washes their mouths and then make a run for it.

The point is: when every other club are running after players to make them better, Arsenal might finally wake up from the slumber and get some reinforcements themselves.

According to the ever-reliable Gianluca di Marzio, the Gunners would make a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this January should Alexis Sanchez be sold. The Dortmund star has been wanting to leave his club for a while and might be raring at this opportunity.

Meanwhile, Jannik Vestergaard of Borussia Monchengladbach is on the radar of both Arsenal and Tottenham according to Tuttomercatoweb.

#1 Manchester madness

Manchester United v West Bromwich Albion - Premier League
Back to United?

Don’t pretend like you didn’t miss this. You did. I did. Finding transfer rumours yesterday was like walking in a desert without an oasis in sight. Today, however, I am bathing in one. According to Irish Mirror, Jonny Evans might be on his way back to Manchester United as Jose Mourinho wants him back at the club.

The Red Devils, who sold him for £8 under Louis van Gaal, will make a £20 million offer for him. However, West Ham are holding out £30 million for him.

Meanwhile, according to the Metro, Pep Guardiola wants more defensive reinforcements and has had a sit-down with Samuel Umtiti. The Frenchman has a release clause over £50 million and City could very much pay the fee.

It has also been claimed that the Catalan boss has targeted Inigo Martinez as another player he could pursue as an alternative to Umtiti.
