Premier League transfer news: Bale back to Spurs, Umtiti to City and more - December 31

Real Madrid CF v Legia Warszawa - UEFA Champions League
Back to Spurs?

Just. One. More. Day. And then the transfer window finally opens and we have something concrete to show for. Not that we don't already as Liverpool sneaked Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for a world record fee.

While we might not have signings in that range in this window, we could expect some big signings as the rest of the pack are chasing Manchester City. Although it doesn't look like any club could catch up with them, but there is no harm in trying.

So without further ado, here are the best transfer rumours of the day...

#5 West Ham Mania

Chelsea v West Ham United - Premier League
Swapped for Mawson?

Yup. West Ham are well and truly Manchester United’s greatest competitor in this space. There is not a day when the Hammers aren’t linked to a player. As of today, we have three pieces of news for you.

One, David Moyes wants Alfie Mawson so badly that he is willing to let go of forward Andre Ayew to Swansea in a swap deal. Indeed, according to the Mirror, West Ham are open to the idea of letting their £20 million signing leave in order to acquire the services of Mawson.

Two, the Mirror strike once again. According to them, West Ham United are also interested in bringing Genk forward Moses Simons to the club, who is available for as little as £4 million.

Three, and this is an update from a previous rumour. According to Mail, the Hammers have submitted a loan bid for Sevilla midfielder, Steven N’Zonzi, who is apparently willing to leave the club after falling down the pecking order.

#4 Huddersfield and Burnley

Stoke City v Everton - Premier League
Lennon's way out?

Ah! Finally some new additions in this section, eh? After all, it gets boring to see likes of West Ham and Manchester United almost every single day. So, according to the Sun, Burnley are keen to bring Everton winger, Aaron Lennon, from the Merseyside.

The outlet claims that they are going to make a £1.5 million bid for the former Tottenham star as there is no sign of him extending his contract that ends at the conclusion of the season.

And now for Huddersfield. The Daily Mail claim that they have made an approach to AS Monaco over the availability of Terence Kongolo. The defender only just made a switch to Monaco for £11.6 million in the summer, but hasn’t cemented a place in the starting line-up, giving Huddersfield some hope.

#3 Liverpool and Stoke City

Stoke City v Manchester United - Premier League
'One day I will play for Liverpool'

Well, suddenly, Liverpool are now a frequent member in this space. It seems as though they have been ignited in the transfer news section after the surprisingly swift acquisition of Virgil Van Dijk. Signing the Dutchman might solve some of their defensive woes, but it still won’t help the goalkeeping crisis that the Reds have to face on a consistent basis.

As a result, they are being linked with Stoke City goalkeeper, Jack Butland, by Football London, who claim that the shot-stopper wants to play for Liverpool at some point in his career. And that will certainly make them a stronger defensive unit.

Speaking of Stoke, their on-loan player, Jese Rodriguez, is raring to prove himself as a player and wants to move back to Las Palmas, who are currently battling relegation. According to La Provincia, while both the player and the Spanish outfit are interested in the deal, the players’ wages of around £5 million a year is a stumbling block.

#2 The Londoners’ party

Juventus FC v AC ChievoVerona - Serie A
Finally to Juve?

And this section is all about Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have resurrected their interest in Monaco star, Thomas Lemar, who they wanted to sign back in the summer. They have now, according to reports, have had a £91 million bid accepted for the Frenchman.

There is some good news for Chelsea fans as according to Calciomercato, Juventus are looking at a replacement for Alex Sandro and have targeted Bayer Leverkusen left-back, Wendell Borges, and Roma full-back, Emerson Palmieri, leaving Chelsea free to sign the Brazilian left-back for £80 million.

Meanwhile, according to Daily Star, Real Madrid are willing to offer Gareth Bale and some cash to Tottenham Hotspur to bring Harry Kane to the Bernabeu in a deal worth £150 million. And then there is a rumour from Transfer Market Web, which claims that the North Londoners are interested in bringing Marcelo Brozovic from Inter and will offer around £10-11 million.

#1 More and more Manchester madness

RC Deportivo La Coruna v Real Madrid CF - La Liga
Back to United?

I will begin this straight off the bat without beating any bush. According to Duncan Castles, Cristiano Ronaldo wants to go back to Manchester United and has, as a result, asked for his release clause to be lowered from €1 billion to €100 million so that the Red Devils can sign him.

Meanwhile, Don Balon claim that the Galacticos are willing to make a €100 million bid for Anthony Martial as they see him as a perfect candidate for the number 9 role. Don Balon don’t stop here though as they also claim that the Blancos have stolen the march on Dybala from Manchester United and have made a €120 million offer for the Argentine.

And then the Sun report that Manchester City are placing a £50 million offer for Barcelona’s French star, Samuel Umtiti, who has been in solid form this season.
