Lukaku has been in tremendous form this season for Everton

French club PSG are set to test Everton’s resolve as they look to make an approach for Belgian forward, Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian was recently interviewed by French Station SFR and was asked about the rumours linking the forward with a move to the French capital.

Lukaku gave a vague reply to the question and said, “This is Paris! Me, I know there are many people who come to the stadium to see me. That’s the only thing I know.”

The Belgian’s form this season has been stupendous so far with the forward finding the net 10 times in 13 appearances for both club and country.

Competition for places

One of the primary reasons for the Belgian being linked with the French club is PSG’s lack of attacking options. PSG let go of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the summer and since then haven’t been able to identify an adequate replacement for the enigmatic Swede.

However, Unai Emery, the PSG coach has been well served by Edinson Cavani. But it is now believed that the Uruguayan may have sustained a muscle strain. The full degree of the damage sustained by the forward is yet to be determined.

The PSG manager was quizzed about the extent of the injury immediately after the game and at the time, the coach was of the view, “There is the possibility he has a muscle strain. I do not know if it's serious or not. I await the analysis of the doctors and they'll tell me. It is a great goal he scored.”

In recent weeks, PSG has seen themselves rise to third place in the league table (albeit on goal difference) behind leaders OGC Nice, who lead by three points.

PSG dominated their game against Rennes and the match finished in a 4-0 victory for PSG, which left the coach beaming with pride ahead of the international break. When questioned about the development of his squad, Emery stated, “We progressed and played a great game but the beginnings were difficult. This is an opponent who had a good first half but in the second half, we had to keep the consistency of the intensity in the game and finish with four goals.”

The coach also complimented the performance of his players stating, “The players are working well, they listen, they want to win, they want to play with their own abilities and to me, they are playing with their individual personalities, collectively.”

The probable arrival of the Belgian augurs well for the squad and the player as well. The team stands to gain a goal scoring forward and the player stands to gain exposure in the Champions League.
