PSV Eindhoven players celebrate their 3-0 win over FC Dordrecht in the Eredivisie

The Hague, Feb 23 (IANS) PSV came another step closer to the Dutch league title after a 3-0 win over FC Dordrecht as closest rivals Ajax dropped points against Willem II (1-1).

The audience in Eindhoven hoped for a goal fest against bottom side FC Dordrecht, but league leaders PSV managed to score 'only' three goals, Xinhua reported. After an early own goal by Jeffry Fortes, it took PSV until the 62nd minute to add a second through a Luuk de Jong penalty and Jeffrey Bruma sealed the 3-0 victory.

Also on Sunday, reigning champions Ajax took the lead at Willem II thanks to a goal by Arkadiusz Milik in the first half, but Ali Messaoud equalised in the second part, after a mistake by defender Nick Viergever. The latter did not clear the ball and handed Willem II the chance to score.

Feyenoord came from two goals behind before half-time in the Rotterdam derby against Excelsior. A handball by Jurgen Mattheij, who stopped a shot by Colin Kazim-Richards, changed the game. The Excelsior defender received a red card and Feyenoord was awarded a penalty, which was converted by Kazim-Richards. With 11 against 10, Jens Toornstra and Lex Immers handed Feyenoord the 3-2 victory in the last quarter of the match.

SC Heerenveen on Sunday defeated FC Groningen 3-1 and FC Twente lost 2-1 at home to Vitessewhile on Saturday, ADO Den Haag defeated PEC Zwolle 3-2 and AZ won 2-0 at Go Ahead Eagles.

PSV now have a gap of 14 points to number two Ajax, with 10 Eredivisie match rounds remaining. Feyenoord and AZ are both 20 points behind the leaders.
