Player ratings for Liverpool

Alisson Becker 7/10

It was a surprisingly quiet evening for the Liverpool man, who did the job when called upon. Alisson Becker made a vital stop early in the second half when he rushed out to stop Christopher Nkunku, who was clean through on goal.

Trent-Alexander Arnold 7.5/10

It was a solid performance from the Liverpool full-back, who looked at his best once again. Trent-Alexander Arnold was even more impressive defensively, successfully keeping Leipzig’s Angelino quiet on the night.

Ozan Kabak 7/10

It was a much-assured outing from the new signing. Ozan Kabak came out strong, winning several challenges and keeping things tidy in defence. He is gradually getting accustomed to Liverpool's style of play.

Jordan Henderson 7/10

The Liverpool captain once again proved to be very reliable at the centre of defence. However, Jordan Henderson struggled to deal with Leipzig’s runs from behind as he lacked the instincts of a natural centre-back.

Andy Robertson 7.5/10

Andy Robertson was his usual energetic and vivacious self the entire game. He posed a serious threat to the Leipzig defence, and even got on the scoresheet with what could be a contender for goal of the season.

Georginio Wijnaldum 7/10

Georginio Wijnaldum was arguably the quietest of Liverpool’s midfield trio, but he had an excellent outing. Wijnaldum kept play ticking at the centre of the park for Liverpool, picking up the ball and linking his team's defence and attack.

Thiago Alcantara 7/10

The former Bayern Munich man put on a classy outing for Liverpool, as his adept reading of the game was a huge plus in midfield. Thiago Alcantara found pockets of space in midfield, and made several recoveries when his side lost possession.

Curtis Jones 8.5/10

This was easily Curtis Jones’ best performance in a Liverpool shirt. In a 'Man of the Match' outing, the 20-year-old relentlessly tore at Leipzig, and linked up beautifully with his attack.

Alcantara did a brilliant job of guarding the ball when in possession, and also worked hard to reclaim the ball.

Mohamed Salah 7.5/10

The Liverpool star failed to convert in the first half, failing to beat Peter Gulacsi. But Mohamed Salah made up for it by opening the scoring in the second half.

Salah pounced on a loose ball by Leipzig captain Sabitzer before racing on to send his shot into the back of the net.

Roberto Firmino 7/10

The Liverpool striker might not have got on the scoresheet on the night, but he played a key part in his team's win. Roberto Firmino made threatening runs against the Leipzig defence, and his link-up play was fabulous too.

Sadio Mane 8/10

The Senegalese international grabbed Liverpool’s second of the night after capitalising on a poor clearance by the hosts.

Sadio Mane was energetic in attack, and his constant pressing led Leipzig to commit mistakes in defence.

Player ratings for Liverpool Substitutes

Xherdan Shaqiri 5/10

Xherdan Shaqiri came on for Firmino in the final 18 minutes of the game, and delivered a decent cameo. His passes were brilliant, as he kept play simple.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 5/10

The England international replaced Thiago Alcantara in the 72nd minute, but struggled to adapt to the pace of the game.

Neco Williams N/A

Neco Williams made no impact on the game, as he was merely a time-wasting Liverpool substitution.
