Reading 2-2 Chelsea: Your reaction to another two points dropped?

Reading v Chelsea - Premier League

Being totally honest here, bearing in mind our recent performances, I sat there watching the game being 2-0 up and for some reason was praying that we would “hold on!”. Isn’t that a ridiculous thing to say with five minutes left in a game we had dominated for 85 minutes?

Chelsea were cruising at Reading and never looked in danger at all. We had created plenty of chances in the second half to close this game out but never took them. Wrong decisions at vital moments saw chances come and go and even still after Frank Lampard added a second to Juan Mata’s late first half opener, it looked like three points were in the bag.

Reading never give up and always play to the final whistle. We had seen recently a fantastic fightback against West Brom and new that they had it in them so why on earth did we throw this one away AGAIN!?

The first goal I have no argument with. Le Fondre made a great run and his finish was clinical. At this point Chelsea began to sit deeper and deeper and invite Reading onto us.

Juan Mata had been replaced by Yossi Benayoun after taking a knock to his ankle and with John Terry warming up for what seemed like the whole second half, you would expect him to come on to tighten things up and to close the game out.

What happened? Rafa replaces Fernando Torres with Demba Ba “to hold up the ball” as he revealed after the game! Ba never held the ball up, Reading pushed forward and what happened next was yet another kick in the teeth!

For some reason and I can not understand why, as a ball is pumped into the box, both Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic jump together for the SAME BALL with one of them leaving their man they are marking, lose the header and at that point are in trouble.

Reading have THREE men unmarked at the far post and a flicked header out wide finds Adam Le Fondre UNMARKED yet again and he volleys the ball into the roof of the net to make it 2-2!

It’s basic defending? Why would do of our centrehalves, arguably the best headers of a ball, go for the same ball?

People are having a pop at Rafa Benitez again and I agree as I couldn’t understand why we never brought on JT with ten minutes left to go with three centre backs and to protect the lead?

In saying that, you can never account for the fact that your two centre backs make a ridiculous decision as they did and cost us the game!

It’s two points dropped and I cannot believe this has happened to us yet again!.

What did you people think of the performance and the result?
