Daniel ‘Danny’ Williams, who was at Hoffenheim since 2011, joins the League Championship side that was relegated from the English top flight this past season.

Reading’s director of football, Nick Hammond, described Williams as a versatile player possessing great energy. Speaking to the club’s official website he said “Williams is an international player and, at 24 years of age, still has plenty of development ahead of him, so we will be delighted to welcome him to the club.”

Williams is the son of an American father and German mother. Born in Karlsruhe, West Germany, Williams played for the German under-15 team. However, due to FIFA regulations concerning dual citizenship, he remained eligible to play at the senior level for either Germany or the United States. When the US came calling in 2011, he grabbed the chance of becoming a full US international for better prospects.

“I am very excited to be here, I am really looking forward to the season and to try to get the club back to the Premier League,” Williams said on his unveiling.

He becomes Reading’s third major signing this summer following the capture of ex-Real Madrid midfielder Royston Drenthe and former England and Manchester City full-back Wayne Bridge. He will officially join the club on July 1 when the transfer window opens, for an undisclosed fee.
