Keylor Navas in action for Real Madrid against Bayern Munich

Often criticized for being a notch lower than what a Real Madrid goalkeeper should be, Keylor Navas has consistently had to fight off not just the fans' dissatisfaction, but also the insecurity that accompanies rumours of a better goalkeeper being targeted by the club.

While the club has been linked with the likes of David de Gea and Thibaut Courtois, Keylor Navas has silently gone about his business, refusing to be bothered by matters beyond his control.

This performance against Bayern Munich will only serve to dissuade people to believe in the Costa Rican's abilities, as remaining unperturbed in the face of a ferocious Bayern Munich attack throwing in the kitchen sink is a feat not many can accomplish. To do so under immense pressure is nothing short of extraordinary.

Bayern's desperation to score saw them take a total of 22 shots, of which 10 were on target. While the Bavarians may have snuck in a couple of goals, the other 8 shots were all saved by Navas, without whose presence between the sticks, Bayern could've well scored several more, thereby eliminating Real Madrid.

Navas, however, had other ideas. He caught, blocked, kicked and parried almost everything that was thrown at him with commendable composure and he was, in the end, the difference maker.

In all honesty, Keylor Navas has, time and again, tried to show us that he is, in fact, good enough to be Real Madrid's shot-stopper. And honestly, it's high time we acknowledge it.
