Real Madrid

Keylor Navas: 9/10

A man of the match performance from Navas

The Costa Rican shot-stopper once again proved his worth to Real Madrid with a match-saving performance. He made as many as eight saves on the night, showing brilliant reflexes and coming out of his line in a flash when needed. He deserved to be the man of the match.

Lucas Vazquez: 4/10

Bayern Munich targeted Vazquez who was starting in an unnatural right back position. He was caught ball watching on numerous occasions as Alaba and Ribery combined brilliantly at times to bypass him. Vazquez was also booked in the second half.

Raphael Varane: 8/10

Varane started in a nervy fashion but grew into the game slowly and steadily. He was Real Madrid's best defender on the night, making as many as 13 clearances. Varane's stunning block on James Rodriguez when the score was tied at 2-2 kept his side in the front seat.

Sergio Ramos: 6/10

The captain had some terrible moments in the first half. Ramos was at fault for Bayern Munich's opener but improved with time. He used his aerial prowess to perfection and cleared a huge number of crosses.

Marcelo: 6/10

A typical Marcelo performance

The Brazilian was again found out defensively with both the goals coming from his flank. But as always, he made up with his output in the attacking third. Marcelo delivered the cross for Benzema's first goal and had also put a chance on a platter for Cristiano Ronaldo who missed from close range.

Mateo Kovacic: 5/10

The Croatian was given the nod ahead of Casemiro. He impressed with his passing abilities and was important in the buildup to the first goal. But his off the ball work was disappointing as he was bypassed far too easily by the Munich counterparts.

Toni Kroos: 4/10

An uncharacteristic evening for the midfield maestro. Kroos was hunted in packs by the Munich midfield and had no time on the ball to make an impact. As a result, he lost possession on numerous occasions and was subdued for large parts of the game.

Luka Modric: 7/10

Modric was stationed on the right wing. He had to cover Lucas Vazquez as the two doubled up to stop Bayern Munich's attacks from the right. He made 3 interceptions on the night and was tremendous with his work rate. Modric was also impressive with his ball control in tight spaces.

Marco Asensio: 3/10

Where was Asensio in the game? Anonymous in attack and absent in defence, this was the forward's toughest outing in a Real Madrid shirt. He did not track back at all which gave David Alaba all the time and space in the world to surge ahead.

Karim Benzema: 9/10

Has Karim Benzema saved his Real Madrid career with this brace?

Benzema needed a performance like this to resurrect his Real Madrid career. He was simply brilliant! Be it his hold up play, his work rate or just being in the right place at the right place; Benzema did not put a foot wrong against the Bavarians.

He scored a match-winning brace and along with Navas was Madrid's best player.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 6/10

Ronaldo had a below-par first half where he had the least touches for any outfield player. But he improved after the interval, showing an eagerness to get on the ball and surging forward.

Ronaldo tracked back well and regained possession on a couple of occasions. He also missed an easy chance in the second half to score his 16th goal of the competition.

Substitutions

Gareth Bale: 7/10

Bale was deployed on the left wing to reduce the influence of Joshua Kimmich and to give Marco Asensio some breathing space who was shifted to the right flank. The Welshman managed to pin Kimmich back and used his physicality well in goal kicks and long balls.

Casemiro: 6/10

The Brazilian was brought on to see out the game without any more hassles and he managed just that.

Nacho Fernandez: N/A

Nacho finally made his return from a thigh injury in the dying minutes. Barring one clearance, he did not have much time to have an influence the game.
