What's the story?

Real Madrid manager Zidane might have said publicly that he is not looking for any striker in the January transfer window, but it is believed that the French manager is actually desperate to sign a top quality forward as soon as possible.

With Karim Benzema struggling to find his goalscoring boots, latest reports in Spanish TV show El Chiguarito (via The Metro) claim that Real Madrid are keen on signing Manchester City superstar Sergio Aguero.

Aguero is reportedly not happy at being benched by Guardiola for the Manchester dery and the Argentine is said to be pretty open to make a move back to Madrid in the coming transfer window.

Aguero was not pleased with being substituted against Tottenham

Aguero has once again been in superb form this season netting 13 goals so far for the Citizens, however, he no longer remains an undisputed starter with Pep Guardiola rotating between him and Jesus.

Also, although Aguero started in the match against Tottenham, when he was substituted, he was visibly frustrated, throwing his gloves to the ground and refusing to look at or shake hands with Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola when asked about the incident said:

"That’s normal – I understand. He wants to play but at that moment I needed a little more energy with Gabriel in that position. I don’t want to hurt the players. I understand, I was a football player and I know they want to play. It always breaks my heart when the players cannot play because they deserve it. But it is what it is."

The heart of the matter

Real Madrid were reportedly in the market for both Harry Kane and Mauro Icardi, but with deals for the duo looking highly doubtful, it seems that both Perez and Zidane have turned their attention towards City's Aguero.

The All Whites are prepared to make an opening bid of £62 million for the talented striker and they are quietly confident of getting their man in the coming months. Aguero was also left out of City's quarterfinal clash against Leicester City although reports claim that it was because of a long-standing heel injury.

Author's take

Sergio Aguero is not happy at taking a back seat and Real Madrid are looking to cash in on that. However, it looks highly unlikely that City will let go of a crucial player like the Argentine in the January transfer window and any deal for Aguero will only come to fruition in the summer transfer window.
