Manchester United and Chelsea are both reportedly interested in Real Madrid star Gareth Bale

What’s the story?

Real Madrid superstar Gareth bale would prefer a move to Manchester United over Chelsea should Los Blancos decide the sell their star winger in the summer transfer window. The Welsh winger is pretty happy at Madrid but there have been reports in Spain that Zidane and Perez could look to offload their injury struck star man. Should this happen, a move to the Premier League is most likely and according to reports in The Sun and Diario Gol, Bale is keen on working with Jose Mourinho.

Bale’s sale might also fund the arrivals of stars like Eden Hazard and Kylian Mbappe and it promises to be a summer of intense activity at the Santiago Bernabeu.

While there is no doubting Gareth Bale’s ability, his continuous struggles with injuries seem to have convinced Madrid fans and the hierarchy that his potential sale would not be the end of the world for Los Blancos. Bale is still only 27 and will definitely command a hefty price in the transfer market.

The heart of the matter

With the likes of Isco, Asensio and Lucas Vasquez impressing in Bale’s absence, the Welshman’s absence has not caused that much of an impact to Zidane’s side. Also with the potential arrivals of Eden Hazard and David de Gea, releasing Bale might free up the wage bill for the Spanish giants.

Manchester United have long been linked with a move for the former Tottenham star and the move could finally come to fruition in the summer transfer window although various reports suggest that Mourinho is more interested in signing Willian.

What’s next?

Gareth Bale is racing against time to be fit to feature in the Champions League final against Juventus at Cardiff on June 4th. The Welshman will be determined to win Europe’s top prize in his home country and Zidane will be hoping that the star shows what he is capable of on the big stage.

Author’s take

While Bale’s form and fitness have frustrated both the Madrid fans and the board, it will be wise for them to hang on to the Welshman for another year at least as he is capable of winning a game single-handedly when he in top form.

However, should Madrid decide to sell him, Bale should join Manchester United only if they manage to qualify for the Champions League as a player of his calibre deserves to play in Europe’s top club competition.
