Casemiro has established himself as a key man for Real over the last few years
Holding midfielder Casemiro joined Real Madrid from Sao Paulo in the early part of 2013, but the move was initially a loan one, and the Brazilian was not fully signed until that summer. Even then, it took him until the 2015-16 season to really embed himself into Los Blancos’ first-team – but in the subsequent seasons, he’s gone onto become one of the club’s most important figures.

A favourite of current Real boss Zinedine Zidane, Casemiro essentially does the dirty work – the breaking up of opposition plays, the ball-winning and the quick distribution – that allows Real’s more flashy players like Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Isco to do their best work further forward. For this all-action, tough-tackling style of play, he’s been nicknamed ‘The Tank’.
The Brazilian has won a total of 12 major trophies at the Bernabeu, including 4 Champions Leagues, and he was a key man during the 2016-17 season that saw Los Blancos deliver a domestic and European double, appearing in 42 matches across all competitions and scoring a stunning long-range goal in the Champions League final against Juventus.
