After the departure of Kovacic to Chelsea on a loan move, Madrid fans will be relieved by the news that Modric is staying put. The Real Madrid manager wants another player of Kovacic's caliber in the ranks. Miralem Pjanić and Thiago Alcântara were heavily linked to Madrid.

But the recent contract extension of Pjanic leaves only Thiago as an option for Madrid. Moreover, Lopetegui has already worked with Thiago and is a great admirer of his versatility. As per Express, Thiago has already agreed terms with Madrid. There is still an option of promoting Fede Valverde to the first team to increase the squad depth.

As per Marca, Espanyol are still hopeful and willing to fight till the end for the signature of Llorente. But, this move is only possible if Madrid sign another midfielder.
