What's the story?

Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois has stated that if he was calling the shots at club hierarchy, he would choose to bring in Premier League star Eden Hazard ahead of Neymar at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In case you didn't know...

The current Los Blancos goalkeeper played alongside his Belgian teammate Hazard for four seasons at Chelsea before moving to Real Madrid in the last summer transfer window. On the other hand, Eden Hazard is being continuously linked with Real Madrid as he flaunts his admiration for Real Madrid. Moreover, he is yet to commit for Chelsea by renewing his contract.

The heart of the matter

Real Madrid are enduring a tough season which is not at all usual given the sky-high expectations of their fans. Los Blancos are ten points behind league leaders FC Barcelona and see themselves on the third spot in the LaLiga points table while Chelsea are 4th in the Premier League.

As reported by Spanish Media outlet, AS , the Belgian goalkeeper started by stating, "I [would] choose Eden, of course. I really like him, but the choice is up to the board. I do not know what will happen. That is not a question for me, but for the chairman and the management."
He continued, "The team is what it is now. Karim Benzema is in a good shape and scored 17 goals. Bale started well, but then had to deal with injuries. You see in the matches that we have quality, only sometimes it is not possible to score."

Thibaut Courtois' preference of Eden Hazard over the Brazilian superstar is quite natural as he is familiar with the exploits of the Premier League starlet.

As evident, Real Madrid's recent transfer policy and activity is not what it was once. They have spent way less than their arch-rivals FC Barcelona and it is crystal clear that the Los Blancos management are more focused on signing youngsters with high potential.

However, the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and the off-form of key players might propel Florentino Perez to splash money on superstars this summer. Moreover, starlets like Luka Modric and Marcelo are not getting any younger and Los Blancos hierarchy will be determined to give their all in pursuit of superstars.

What's next?

Real Madrid will turn their focus on the Copa Del Rey and Champions League after facing Alaves later tonight whereas Eden Hazard will try to maintain his sensational form with his new partner in crime, Gonzalo Higuain. He would be looking to propel Chelsea into the top four and aim for success in the Carabao cup and Europa League.
