What's the story?

Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon has been caught calling Barcelona ace Luis Suarez "ugly" during Los Blancos' El Clasico defeat to their arch rivals on Saturday night, prompting captain Lionel Messi to intervene.

In case you didn't know...

After knocking Los Blancos out of the Copa del Rey on last Wednesday, Barcelona secured yet another Clasico win at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night.

Ivan Rakitic bagged the only goal of the game, which proved to be enough for the Blaugrana.

The defeat appears to be the end of Real Madrid's LaLiga title hopes as they now stand twelve points away from the Catalan giants, who are at the top of the table.

With the victory, Barcelona has now surpassed Real Madrid's Clasico wins (95) for the first time in 87 years.

The night witnessed the standard Clasico player clashes, the most popular being the spat between Messi and Blancos captain Sergio Ramos. However, what very few saw was an incident between Suarez and Reguilon in the later stages of the game.

The heart of the matter

According to Spanish publication Marca, a frustrated Sergio Reguilon was seen engaging in a spat with Suarez and commenting on the Uruguayan's appearance.

The Blancos defender reportedly said, "Don’t touch me, you are so ugly, you are so ugly". When Messi intervened, Reguilon turned to him and asked, "What's bothering you, pulga?"

'La Pulga', which is one of Messi's many nicknames, translates to 'the flea'.

Messi himself was involved in a clash with Ramos, who appeared to elbow the Argentine talisman during the game.

What's next?

While Real Madrid will now turn their attention to the Champions League where they are set to once again face Ajax on Wednesday, Barcelona will lock horns with Girona in the Supercopa de Catalunya on the same night.
