What's the story?

According to reputed Spanish outlet AS and Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Real Madrid left-back Marcelo has shocked Real Madrid by considering a move away from the club to join his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus.

It is extremely unlikely that the Brazilian leaves Los Blancos in January, but his exit is a possibility next summer if Juventus comes calling.

In case you didn't know...

The 30-year-old Brazilian played a pivotal role for Real Madrid as they went on to win four UEFA Champions League in five years which includes three consecutive wins.

Along with helping his teammates in defense, Marcelo is known for his flair on the left wing. The defender can rip apart any defensive system in the world with his skills and trickery during overlaps.

Although Juventus has no requirement of a full back at the moment and has no problems in their rearguard, the team will welcome a player of Marcelo's caliber with open arms as it will only bolster their squad.

The heart of the matter

Real Madrid are enduring a tough season after the departures of their greatest goalscorers Cristiano Ronaldo and their manager Zinedine Zidane. Injuries, poor management, and poor form have resulted in a downfall in their performances, which are way below their standards at the moment.

According to reports, Real Madrid are planning for an overhaul in the summer and won't stop their starlets from leaving. Moreover, Sergio Reguilon has earned the trust of the current boss, Santiago Solari, by capitalizing on Marcelo's poor form and earned a place in the starting line up. This, in turn, only increases the chance of Marcelo's move towards Juventus.

It is no secret that Marcelo and former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo shared special chemistry both on and off the pitch at Real Madrid. There is no doubt that Ronaldo's influence will play a huge role in the transfer saga.

Rumour rating: 5.5/10

It still remains to be seen whether Juventus matches the asking price of Florentino Perez in the summer if they start negotiations. Despite his current situation, Marcelo remains priceless for Los Blancos and it will take mammoth work from any team to take him away.

What's next?

Solari's men are far below their usual, world-class standards. However, a recent 2-0 victory over Sevilla saw them rise back to the third place. While Juventus go without any obstacles in Serie A, it's very different for Los Blancos as they are 10 points behind Barcelona currently.

It is clear that Real Madrid's focus will be back to Copa Del Rey and Champions League in the coming months. They are without a backup left-back and it is extremely likely that the big guns at Real Madrid are not even considering a move for Marcelo at the moment.
