Chelsea are looking to bolster their attack in January with Higuain and Fekir on their radar.
Chelsea are looking to bolster their attack in January with Higuain and Fekir on their radar.

What's the story?

According to Matt Law of The Telegraph, Chelsea are very keen to add to their attacking options this January and offloading Alvaro Morata is also on the cards.

It is no secret that the Blues are searching for a striker and it has been reported that the club have even held talks with AC Milan and Juventus about a possible swap deal that could see Higuain reuniting with Maurizio Sarri and Morata returning back to Italy, but this time to the San Siro.

They are also keeping tabs on Nabil Fekir, who was heavily linked with Liverpool this summer.

In case you didn't know...

Liverpool had agreed a £52.75 million deal for Fekir this summer, only to back down at the last moment, possibly due to Fekir’s knee injury in 2015.

Chelsea striker Morata has failed to score in the Premier League since November.

The Heart of the matter...

Maurizio Sarri's squad is in dire need of reinforcements up front with the two Chelsea strikers, Morata and Giroud only scoring a total of 6 league goals between them so far, forcing Sarri to utilize Eden Hazard in the 'False 9' role.

Hazard has so far succeeded in the central role, but there is no reliable back-up for him at the club. Which has prompted the club to look out for attacking players to their ranks as soon as this January?

Higuain has been on the books for Chelsea for quite some time now and reports suggest that a swap deal involving him and Morata might be on the table after Chelsea held talks with AC Milan and Juventus. But given that he is already over 30, it remains to be seen whether the move works out or not.

On the other hand, if Hazard is the continue playing in the 'false 9' role, the Blues are also weighing up making an approach for Lyon's Nabil Fekir, who is out of contract in 2020.

L'Equipe even reported that 'special agent' Pini Zahavi has been hired by Chelsea to negotiate a deal for the wide playmaker.

Rumour rating: 7/10

Matt Law is highly reliable when it comes to Chelsea transfer news and rumours.

What's next?

In absence of a reliable striker, Sarri would continue to deploy Hazard upfront given his fine form.

Chelsea lost just their third game under Sarri this season to Leicester at home, will be looking to make a strong comeback when they visit Vicarage Road to face seventh-placed Watford.
