Report: Liverpool reject Manchester City's second bid for Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling

According to previous reports Manchester City have been circling the skies above Liverpool looking for the best time to swoop in for their young forward Raheem Sterling. The Sky Blues were rumoured to have made a bid of £30 million for the Englishman.

The Citizens now seem to have upped the bid according to Sky Sports. The figure that is being touted is close to a whopping £40 million. To put that in context, that was the figure Arsenal quoted for Luis Suarez a couple of seasons ago in an attempt to trigger his buyout clause.

While, City seem to really be interested in ensuring that Sterling plays for their side next season, this could be their final offer for him.

While the Reds’ manager Brendan Rodgers has been adamant that the youngster will stay at Liverpool. In that spirit, Liverpool have rejected the second bid from Manchester City as well.

The 20-year-old has been the subject of much speculation since he was said to have rejected a big money contract at Liverpool citing his desire to win trophies. Since then Liverpool seem to have valued the youngster at nearly £50 million pounds. If that is true, then City’s bid still falls short of the Reds’ asking price.

Sterling had a relatively disappointing season last time around but has displayed his talents for Liverpool time and again in the past. While the question of where he will play next season looms, other questions about his quality must also be answered.
