Report: Petr Cech agrees personal terms as he nears Arsenal move

Petr Cech is set to be a Gunner next season

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has reportedly agreed personal terms with Arsenal, as he inches closer to a move to the Emirates. The London-based clubs have yet to finalise a transfer fee with talks set to continue this week.

The news will come as a blow to Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho as he was against the 33-year-old joining their London rivals. On the contrary, this development is sure to excite the Arsenal supporters, as they have been lacking an experienced world-class goalkeeper since the departure of former Germany international Jens Lehmann.

The Chelsea legend Petr Cech brings over a wealth of experience to the Gunners, having amassed over 450 appearances for the 2014/15 league champions, and is widely regarded as one of the all-time greats of his generation.

Roman Abramovich has allowed the Czech Republic international to join Arsenal after playing second fiddle to Belgium international Thibaut Courtois during the entire 2014/15 campaign.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are on the lookout for a replacement, having been linked to Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic and QPR’S Robert Green in the past few weeks.

Cech will improve any side he goes to: John Terry

Meanwhile, Chelsea captain John Terry said Cech was very professional last season and that he could help Arsenal save as much as 15 points a season if he joins the North London club.

Terry said: “There’s talk of Arsenal signing Petr Cech and, if they do get him, he will strengthen them for sure. He will save them 12 or 15 points a season.

“Petr was an unbelievable professional last year. When you get left out of the team it can be hard to accept but, when he came in, he was exceptional. He deserves a lot of credit for that. We understand he wants to play first-team football but nobody wants to see him leave the club.

“He’s going to be sorely missed and will improve any side he goes to.”
