Rumours suggest that Paris Saint-Germain are looking to bring Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to Paris. Although it seems unlikely that they will be able to bring him to Paris this season, PSG are looking to sign him up before the start of the 2016/17 season.
According to L’Equipe, a leading French publication, PSG are preparing a £90 million bid for Ronaldo. However, they will only be able to place their offer in the summer of 2016.
AS reaffirmed the former Manchester United winger’s desire to see out his current Los Blancos contract – which expires in 2018 – but the newspaper concedes that anything could happen within the next 12 months. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic linked with a move back to AC Milan, they will have enough space on the wage bill for Cristiano Ronaldo. Real may also be looking to move forward as the the superstar will be 31 next year, so they might not hesitate to sell him for the right price.
Claims suggest that PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi and super-agent Jorge Mendes meet regularly and the pair have a good working relationship. This is expected to make the negotiations easier for the Paris-based side. PSG are one of the few clubs in the world that could afford the superstar’s wages.
Relaxation of FFP regulations could help PSG
Real Madrid were reportedly interested in PSG’s 22-year-old midfielder Marco Verratti, but they had to back off as PSG were threatening to launch a counter bid which included Ronaldo. Another reason why the deal won’t happen next season is due to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play restrictions.
FFP currently prevents PSG from making big investments. But with UEFA planning to relax the financial fair play regulations, PSG will be able to go ahead with the transfer in the summer of 2016.
If both clubs agree for a player exchange, then it might attract less attention from UEFA as the Financial Fair Play implications will be lessened. But that seems unlikely as PSG would not want to sell one of their best players and the fact he is just 22 will make it more difficult for clubs looking to sign him.
It is highly unlikely that Ronaldo will leave Madrid next season. He is just 10 goals away from becoming the highest goal scorer in Real Madrid history, beating Raul’s total of 323 goals. He would definitely want to beat that record before his time at Bernabéu comes to an end.
