Reports: Arsenal and Tottenham show interest in Real Madrid star

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League

Pochettino and Wenger will both hope to strengthen their teams in January

What's the story?

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have both had less than ideal starts to their Premier League campaigns and are currently on the verge of being out of the title race. Manchester City are currently looking like they could run away with the title and Arsenal are currently 15 points behind the league leaders. Tottenham are doing even worse and they trail their North London rivals by a further three points.

Both clubs could do with reinforcements in the winter transfer window if they hope to mount a serious bid for the Premier League title. According to the Sun, both clubs will go head-to-head in an attempt to sign Real Madrid's Dani Ceballos in January.

In case you didn't know..

Dani Ceballos began his professional career at Real Betis and helped them win promotion to La Liga in 2014. He became an integral part of the Betis set-up, making 105 appearances for the club over three seasons. His performances earned him a move to Real Madrid in 2017, where he has made 11 appearances and scored two goals.

The heart of the matter

The midfielder joined Los Blancos in the summer of 2017, amidst interest from rivals Barcelona. The talented young midfielder has struggled for appearances this season and has played a total of only 406 minutes, with 180 of those minutes coming in the Copa del Rey against CF Fuenlabrada.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are not the only clubs interested in the youngster, with Italian clubs AC Milan and AS Roma also showing interest. The North London clubs will have to offer a fairly lucrative deal to the youngster to make him move to England, especially since he just transferred to Madrid a few month ago.

Arsenal are currently in dire need of replacements, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Jack Wilshere in the last year of their contracts. Santi Cazorla has also suffered setbacks in his recuperation from surgery, and does not seem likely to play for Arsenal in the imminent future.

Author's Take

The youngster has struggled to break into Real Madrid's first squad in the last few months and it seems unlikely that he will do so soon. If Ceballos decides that he needs to move for first-team football, England would not be the worst destination for him. Arsenal will need a central midfielder should Jack Wilshere leave, and the move could go through.
