Reports: Chelsea and Liverpool eye move for former Manchester United star

Chelsea v Liverpool - Premier League
Conte and Klopp are set to cross paths in the transfer market

What's the rumour?

Chelsea and Liverpool are set to lock horns once again after their confrontation on Sunday afternoon, but this time in the transfer window. According to the Daily Star, the Premier League pair have set their sights on signing Crystal Palace winger, Wilfried Zaha, who is believed to be worth a fee of £50 million.

In case you didn't know...

A youth product of Crystal Palace, Zaha has been a first-team regular since 2010 for his boyhood club. His impressive performances earned him a move to Manchester United in January 2013 for a fee estimated to be £15 million including add-ons.

However, his two-year stint at the Red Devils proved to be a major disaster as he was able to make only four appearances and was loaned out twice before his loan deal was made permanent by Crystal Palace in 2015.

The heart of the matter

After his return to South London, the Ivorian rejuvenated his career, living up to his potential and establishing himself as an indispensable element of the Palace side. Following a return from injury in October 2017, Zaha has played a crucial role in leading his team to Premier League survival.

The 25-year-old has scored has scored eight goals and assisted three times, as well as completing an average of four dribbles per match in the league. The winger has thrived in his new false nine role, which has certainly added a new dimension to his game.

Rumour Probability: 8/10

Zaha's contract with the Eagles runs until 2022 but that hasn't stopped him from his stating his intentions to leave Roy Hodgson's side. He has welcomed the suggestion of moving to a bigger club as his aim is to play European football, as per the reports of The Sun.

Both Chelsea and Liverpool are familiar with the potential and threat that the former England international offers as they have been on the receiving end of his stellar performances, and would preferably like to have him on their team as both the clubs look determined to make a push for the winger.

Author's take

Wilfried Zaha has been playing with Crystal Palace for three years now in the Premier League. He had a rough and forgettable experience at Manchester United but it's time that he makes a move to a top six club as he has achieved possibly everything there is to achieve in his second spell at Selhurst Park.

His previous experiences have certainly made him more tenacious since he is ready to take on a new challenge, and a move in the summer will be perfect as he would like to prove himself at the highest level.
