In case you didn't know...

Matthijs de Ligt is one of the most in-demand players in Europe after he enjoyed a stellar campaign with Ajax. The 19-year-old led Ajax to the domestic double in the recently concluded 2018/19 season. Ajax also caught the attention of football fans around the globe as they dominated European giants on their way to the Champions League semi-finals.

The Dutch prodigy showed his caliber with consistently powerful performances throughout the 2018/19 campaign. De Ligt proved his abilities against the toughest of opponents like Real Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich at the biggest stages.

It goes without saying that De Ligt possesses all the hallmarks to become a great defender but what truly sets him apart is his ability to lead. It is rare for a player of his age to show such composure at the back and there is little doubt why top clubs across Europe are battling to land the player.

In a recent interview, De Ligt admitted that there are several offers from top clubs across Europe.

The heart of the matter

It is an open secret that there are numerous top clubs who are battling to secure the services of the defender. Barcelona are one of the favourite teams to land the highly rated Ajax star but Juventus, Liverpool, PSG and Manchester United are all in the race.

According to the report, Manchester United will be out of the race considering that they won't feature in the Champions League. PSG and Liverpool are best options for Raiola as Barcelona are not willing to meet his demands despite being De Ligt's preferred choice.

What's next?

De Ligt is set to feature for Netherlands tonight as they take on England in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League.
