Reports: Julian Weigl to receive salary hike from Borussia Dortmund to prevent Manchester City swoop

Weigl
Weigl is one of the most exciting players in Europe

Manchester City have been tracking Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl for some time now. The midfielder is only 21 but is already a crucial part of Dortmund's midfield. His talent has not gone noticed and several big clubs are looking at his signature.

The German has been instrumental in Dortmund’s success at attacking play and recently scored his first goal for the club. The youngster is arguably the best one of the best in Europe currently because he plays like he is an experienced 27-year old central midfielder.

Dortmund picked him up for only 2 million from 1860 Munich, but his value according to transfermarkt is now worth 7 times the price they paid for him a year ago. Weigl’s style of play resembles that of other great passers of the game like Busquets and Xavi.

His quality on the ball is so good that Tomas Tuchel had to play him ahead of the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Nuri Sahin at Dortmund. The German club have acquired some of the best young talents in world football this summer but Weigl has been at the club for over a year now.

Weigl could someday make the cut at even Barcelona and it won’t be surprising if the Catalans have one eye on him as well but as of now Pep Guardiola is the man who wants him the most.

Guardiola already raided German clubs this summer signing the likes of Leroy Sane from Schalke. and of course most notably Gundogan from Dortmund. Weigl would be a brilliant addition to the City squad but as of now Dortmund will try and repel any offers for him.

But just to be on the safe side, Dortmund are ready to offer their star a salary hike. The club are willing to triple his wages. Weigl currently earns 20,000 a week but Dortmund are willing to offer him upto 60,000.

Guardiola is willing to spend 20 million to secure his signature in the next summer window but if Weigl signs a new contract before that his value will rise and Cit will have to shell out a lot more than the 20 million.

City have to fix several issues at the back

Barcelona ensured City learned a harsh lesson last night after they were demolished 4-0 at the Camp Nou making it 4 wins without a win for Guardiola in all competitions Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick.

But until Bravo’s sending off City were very much in the game. The Chilean keeper made a blunder just after the second half and ended up getting sent off for preventing SUarez’s shot from going in

After that City were opened up time and time again as the Catalans used the man advantage extremely well. Pep has a lot to think about and not a lot of time to fix the problems at the back before the game against Southampton.
