Lionel Messi is reportedly a huge admirer of Gareth Bale’s talents

What’s the story?

Lionel Messi reportedly thinks Gareth Bale is more of a threat now than Cristiano Ronaldo. According to reports in Spanish daily Diario Gol, Messi is more wary of the pacy Welshman’s talents than the Portuguese goal machine.

The reports also made it clear that Messi has great respect for his long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo, but, he thinks Bale is more capable of causing opposition defences problems at the moment.

Diario Gol also went on to claim that while Messi thinks Ronaldo is the leader of the Madrid attack at the moment, he thinks Bale will soon become the most important player for Los Blancos.

In case you didn’t know...

Bale and Ronaldo are undoubtedly the two best Real Madrid attackers

The Portuguese superstar has not been at his best this season, but he has still incredibly managed to score 26 goals. Bale, on the other hand, is working hard to get back to his best and will be keen to contribute in the business end of the season.

The heart of the matter

Gareth Bale has had an injury-hit season so far, but he has shown glimpses of his immense talent and potential whenever he has taken the pitch. The Real Madrid team looks completely different when Bale is on the pitch and he definitely adds an extra dimension to the attack.

While Cristiano Ronaldo has not been at his usual goalscoring best, he has still popped up and scored over 25 goals. The Portuguese superstar is capable of creating something out of nothing and he is still capable of winning matches single-handedly.

However, with Bale only 27 and at the peak of his career, Messi is confident that the Welshman will soon become the most important player for Real Madrid.

What’s next?

Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to meet in a high voltage El Clasico match on April 24th. Los Blancos are favourites to claim the La Liga title this season and Barcelona will have to get a victory if they are to have any hopes of winning the title.

Messi and Co will be pumped up for the big match, but the likes of Ronaldo and Bale will be pretty confident of getting the better of a shaky Barcelona defence.

Author’s take

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been the two best players of our generation and the duo has dominated the Ballon d’Or awards since 2008. However, all good things come to and end and with Ronaldo currently 32, it is only natural that the 27-year-old Bale will start taking more responsibility and importance in the Real Madrid squad.
