Reports: Liverpool confident of signing £65 million Real Madrid superstar
What’s the story?
Liverpool are confident of signing Real Madrid superstar James Rodriguez if they qualify for the Champions League. The Colombian's future has been subject to intense speculation and now latest reports in the Mirror suggest that James could well leave Real Madrid in the summer.
The Merseyside giants are not the only ones interested in Rodriguez, but they appear to be leading the race with many reports in Spain even suggesting that contact with the player’s representatives have been made. However, the same report also suggests that James will only move to a club playing in the Champions League.
A source close to Real Madrid confirmed that James was looking for a move away from the Spanish giants:
“It seems Zidane is not satisfied with the player this season and has already asked for reinforcements in this position for next season. The player isn’t happy and it now appears a move in the summer is very feasible.”
In case you didn’t know...
After making a big money move to Real Madrid in 2014, James has struggled to live up to his potential and has not found regular playing time. Ever since Zidane has taken over, James has seen himself fall behind Isco and even Marco Asensio in the pecking order.
The Colombian is said to be frustrated at the lack of first-team opportunities and a move away from Spain might just rejuvenate the talented playmaker's career.
The heart of the matter
25-year-old James Rodriguez is at the peak of his career and it is only right that a player of his calibre and talent gets the right amount of playing time. With Zidane reluctant to use the Colombian in key matches, a move to the Premier League is definitely possible for the supremely talented midfielder.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have been pretty impressive under Jurgen Klopp this season and they will be looking to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title next year. A player of James Rodriguez’s abilities will definitely improve the Premier League giants and Klopp will be desperate to tie up a deal with the Real Madrid superstar.
Champions League football will play a huge role in Liverpool’s transfer plans and if they want to attract the best players, it is imperative that they qualify for Europe’s premier club competition. With just 9 games remaining in the season, Klopp will be hoping that the Reds finish the season strongly and finish in the top 4.
James Rodriguez is undoubtedly one of the world’s most talented players and a move to Liverpool might bring the best out of him. Jurgen Klopp is known for getting the best out of his players and both Liverpool and James Rodriguez could end up reviving their fortunes once again.
