What’s the story?

It seems as though Liverpool want another forward to join their team from the Serie A as they made an inquiry for Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne, according to pundit Ian McGarry.

In case you didn’t know…

Some days ago, some stories emerged that the Reds made a €70 million bid for Insigne but it was rejected as Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis wants a mammoth €150 million for his superstar.

Heart of the matter

However, they might just have been unfounded reports as Ian McGarry claims that the Merseyside outfit didn’t actually make a bid for him. He stated that while the Reds didn’t make an offer, they did enquire over his availability.

“I’ve spoken to some people that I know at Liverpool who said there was no bid,” he said.

“It was simply an inquiry as to whether he might be available in the summer as clubs do once the January window closes, they start looking at a strategy for the summer.”

He also added that the main factor that could decide Insigne’s future is how much wages he is offered at Napoli as he wants to earn more than what he is getting now.

“I think the key here, or the factor that probably tells us what’s going to happen, is that Insigne is up for contract renewal and he wants to be paid substantially more than he is being paid just now.”

What’s next?

Since the January window is closed now, Liverpool will have to wait till the summer to do anything on this front. The last time they brought a forward from the Serie A, he went on to become one of their best players (Mo Salah), which perhaps explains their interest in the Italian star.
