What’s the rumour?

Manchester City are set to sign Wilfried Zaha according to a report in the Daily Mirror. The report claims that the Crystal Palace star is set to cost £50 million.

The 25-year-old winger has been in sensational form for the Eagles this season. He is one of the main reasons why they avoided relegation this season despite having a horrendous start to the campaign.

In case you didn’t know...

Zaha was Sir Alex Ferguson's last signing for Manchester United. The Ivorian never got a chance to play under the legendary manager, however, as he was loaned back to Palace in January following which Ferguson announced his retirement when the season ended.

David Moyes was unable to use him properly and he hardly got a chance to shine at Old Trafford. In January 2014, he was loaned out to Cardiff City and then sent on a season-long loan to Crystal Palace when Lous van Gaal arrived. That move was made permanent when the season came to a close.

The heart of the matter

Pep Guardiola has won the Premier League title, shattering records left, right and centre but he's keen on strengthing his squad in the summer. The manager is keen on getting a winger and has set his sights on Zaha according to the Daily Mirror report.

The report also claims that Manchester City failed to land Riyad Mahrez in the January transfer window despite launching several bids. They reported that one of the bids was over £60 million but it was rejected by Leicester City who were determined to keep the Algerian winger at the club.

Rumour probability: 6/10

Daily Mirror are not one of the best sources but this seems to be a legit rumour. The Cityzens need a winger and Zaha is a cheaper alternative to Mahrez.

Author’s take

Zaha will be a brilliant signing for Manchester City but it will interesting to see if he actually accepts the bench role at City. Sterling and Sane have been in stunning form and there is no possible way for Zaha to get into the team ahead of them.
