Reports: Manchester City have signed Ilkay Gundogan on a 5-year contract

On his way to Manchester?

Pep Guardiola might already have his first signing before the start of his regime. According to German newspaper Bild Ilkay Gundogan will be on his way to Manchester at the end of the season.

The midfielder has been linked with the club for quite some time now and if the reports are true then City have got their man. Guardiola is known to be a big admirer of Gundogan and is one of the players he wants to bring in for next season.

Gundogan’s uncle was spotted in Amsterdam earlier this year meeting with Manchester City director Txiki Begiristain. That event triggered rumours fo a possible move to the Sky Blues.

Yaya Toure’s future has also been thrown in doubt with the midfielder reportedly being unsettled at the club. His agent has also spoken out against the club which has only fueled those speculations.

Toure was also not a preferred choice in midfield under Guardiola when he was playing at Barcelona and it is very likely he won't be preferred at City either. This only makes it although more likely we will see the 25-year-old.

Dortmund are expected to want around 30 million for their star which shouldn’t be a problem for a club with CIty’s finances. But there is a susceptibility with Gundogan and that has been his injuries.

The playmaker missed the whole of the 2013/14 season with a spinal injury and he hasn’t exactly been problem free since then. He recently recovered from a foot injury against Liverpool in that incredible game in the Europa league.

The German international is the type of player that exemplifies Guardiola’s style of play. The manager had Sergio Busquets in a similar role when he was at Barcelona and then Xabi Alonso at Bayern Munich. So the move to buy the player is one that can understand Manchester City's intention.
