Paris Saint-Germain could come calling for Tottenham's Christian Eriksen, but will they succeed?

What’s the rumour?

According to a report from The Daily Express, Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly eyeing a move for Christian Eriksen after the midfielder enjoyed yet another brilliant season with Tottenham Hotspur.

In case you didn't know...

A product of Ajax's famed academy, Eriksen made 163 appearances for the Dutch club before moving to England in 2013. He has been a central figure at Spurs ever since and has been pivotal in their resurgence under Mauricio Pochettino.

The Dane has made over 200 appearances for Tottenham and has chipped in with 56 goals and 69 assists. He is a very intelligent player, technically brilliant and is also one of the best set-piece takers in the world.

His current contract with Spurs runs out only in 2020.

The heart of the matter

Following another dismal campaign in the UEFA Champions League and as a result of the managerial change that is expected to happen as a result of Unai Emery's impending departure, wholesome changes can be expected at PSG this summer.

Thus, they have allegedly identified Eriksen as a perfect candidate to re-ignite their midfield next season. The report claims that PSG are weighing up the possibility of signing the midfielder for a reported fee of £100 million.

The 26-year-old has been brilliant this season for Spurs. He has scored 14 goals and has made 13 assists in 44 games in all competitions.

Rumour rating/probability - 5/10

No credible sources are reporting the same news yet and at the moment, there is nothing concrete that suggests a move is close.

Author’s take

Eriksen has been the heartbeat of the Spurs' attacking force and there is very little chance that Spurs will allow the player to leave even if a mammoth offer comes in. Spurs and Pochettino are hell-bent on winning something big next season and they will want to keep Eriksen at any cost at the club to achieve the same.
