Reports: Real Madrid eye shock move for 25-year-old forward

Eibar v Real Madrid - La Liga
Can Zidane pull this move off?

What’s the rumour?

Reports from Express claim that Real Madrid are ready to bring Alvaro Morata back to the club this summer. The forward was sold by Zidane ahead of this season to Chelsea and he now wants to re-sign the player.

In case you didn't know...

Alvaro Morata has had to wait for his chances to become the first-choice starter at Real Madrid and a two-year loan spell at Juventus seemed to guarantee that. The Spaniard scored 27 goals in 93 games for the Italians and helped them to successive domestic doubles.

However, on his return to Madrid, he had to settle for a bench role as Zidane preferred Karim Benzema. He pitched in with crucial goals when called upon, but was sold to Chelsea in 2017 for a club record £60 million deal.

The heart of the matter

Real Madrid are set for a transfer overhaul this season following a disappointing title defense. Benzema has come under heavy criticism as he has been largely inconsistent throughout the season. New addition Borja Mayoral has failed to make an impact and the club are looking at possible reinforcements.

As per the report, they have turned their attention to Morata who has struggled to find his feet in England, despite showing glimpses of brilliance. He has a contract till 2022 and Chelsea are likely to demand a fee more or less equal to the £60 million for which he was brought in, that is, if they decide to sell him.

Rumour rating/probability - 7/10

Some outlets are reporting the same news and Madrid may eye Morata who may be tempted at the prospect of becoming regular starter for the club. Chelsea are unlikely to sell him easily.

Author’s take

Real Madrid are very likely to buy a forward this summer and have been linked with Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski. A deal for him, however, may be difficult to materialise and they may turn to Morata. He will strengthen Madrid's forward line and Chelsea will need to find a proper replacement if they do sell him.
