What's the rumour?

According to the Spanish media outlet AS, Real Madrid are plotting a summer move for Chelsea superstars Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso although a move for the latter looks less likely.

According to the report, Maurizio Sarri has lost confidence in the Chelsea dressing room and several key players have turned against the Italian tactician.

In case you didn't know..

Eden Hazard's love affair with the Spanish giants has been running since last summer. Now he has made his intention to join the Los Blancos clear and awaits a summer move to the Bernabeu.

With the Belgian's current contract set to expire in 2020, The Blues have no choice but to hear any incoming offers from Real Madrid, knowing Hazard's desire to represent the Royal Whites.

On the other hand, a return for former academy player, Marcos Alonso, is being considered. The Spaniard was being linked with his former club last summer when the departure of Theo Hernandez on a loan deal to Real Sociedad left Real Madrid with no replacement for Marcelo.

However, the emergence of Sergio Reguilon has now rendered Alonso's chances of making to Madrid less likely though the Blancos are monitoring him.

The heart of the matter

While Eden Hazard is one of the top candidates to arrive at the Bernabeu next summer, Marcos Alonso's place at the Stamford Bridge might not be safe following a string of underwhelming performances under Maurizio Sarri.

Alonso is likely to be offloaded. However, it remains to be seen whether or not Real Madrid will act upon their interest with Reguilon and Marcelo already vying for a starting berth in Solari's XI.

All the odds are in Real Madrid's favour to land the Belgian forward, Eden Hazard at the Bernabeu, next summer. However, there are several factors revolving around their pursuit of Marcos Alonso.

The Spaniard has a running contract until 2023 with the Premier League giants, which might be a roadblock for the Los Blancos, resisting them to reunite with the Spaniard. On the other hand, the impressive performances from Sergio Reguilon suggest that they might not look elsewhere for a left-back.

The 22-year-old has become the favourite for Solari, leaving Marcelo on the bench quite frequently. Recently, the Spaniard started in the crucial La Liga match against Atletico Madrid and displayed a splendid performance in Los Blanco's inspirational 3-1 victory over their local rivals.

Rumour rating: 7/10

While Eden Hazard's arrival at the Spanish capital is almost certain, the possibility of Real Madrid's double swoop including Alonso revolves around several factors, making him a less straight forward move.

However, if the Spaniard continues his poor form at the Stamford Bridge, the Blues might consider selling him in the next summer.

What's next?

Chelsea are fighting for the fourth spot in the Premier League. After being on the receiving end of a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City at the weekend, Sarri's men are low on morale and are desperate to get back to winning ways.

On the other hand, with a Derby win last weekend, Los Blancos are back in the title race, six points adrift of the leaders, FC Barcelona. Real Madrid have crucial matches in this month as they face Ajax in the UCL round of 16 tonight followed by two more El Clasicos in the CDR and La Liga, respectively.
