Is he the man Zidane needs?

What's the story?

La Liga giants Real Madrid have been given the green light to sign Argentinean striker Sergio Aguero by Manchester City according to English media outlet Express (via Diario Gol).

However, there is a catch in the deal. The Citizens are ready to sell their number 10 only if the Los Blancos give goalkeeper Keylor Navas in return according to the report from Spain.

In case you didn't know...

Real Madrid's front line has been struggling this season due to the inconsistent form of striker Karim Benzema and the Frenchman is starting to lose the trust of the club. The 29-year-old centre-forward has only scored four goals for the Zinedine Zidane-managed side this season.

Benzema was also on the receiving end of more criticism after Real Madrid's 3-0 loss to arch-rivals Barcelona in the league last week.

On the other hand, the 12 times European Champions' reported transfer target Aguero's future at the Etihad stadium is said to be uncertain as Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola prefers Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus over the 30-year-old.

The Argentine player, who became the club's all-time top scorer last month, is unhappy at the fact that the youngster gets the nod ahead of him in the Manchester club's big matches.

The heart of the matter

Manchester City are ready to sell the reportedly unsettled Aguero to Real Madrid, but under the one condition that the Spanish side's number one, Keylor Navas, joins the Citizens.

The report claims that Guardiola wants Navas to replace former Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and be the back-up for the 24-year-old goalkeeper Ederson.

Diario Gol also says in their report that the former Bayern Munich manager is surprisingly ready to listen to offers in the region £30-£40 million for Aguero when the former Atletico Madrid player is worth as much as £70 million.

Author's take

Diario Gol is not a reliable source to take transfer news from and the authenticity of the report still remains to be known. Aguero being unhappy about being second choice to Jesus could have truth in it, but it is hard to see Guardiola selling the striker for £40 million.

On the other hand, Aguero could be the perfect replacement for Benzema in the Real Madrid line-up.
