What's the story?

According to the AS, Real Madrid are planning to offer James Rodriguez to Tottenham Hotspur in a deal to sign Christian Eriksen.

In case you didn't know...

The Los Blancos are struggling without Cristiano Ronaldo and are 10 points behind the leaders, Barcelona in the league. They are trying to strengthen their squad and the Danish midfielder, Christian Eriksen is among their top targets.

On the other hand, James Rodriguez joined Real Madrid for £71 million from AS Monaco in 2014 but he failed to get established in the team. He was loaned out to Bayern Munich for two seasons in 2017 and he is currently struggling for his regular game time even though he impressed during his first season.

The Bavarians have the option to buy him permanently at the end of the current season but the Germans are unlikely to use it.

The heart of the matter

The Spanish daily sports newspaper, AS claims that Real Madrid are willing to include Rodriguez in a part-exchange offer for Eriksen in order to cheapen the price that the Spurs are asking for the Danish international.

Erikson is among the top performers for the Spurs during the last years and the London-club are trying everything to keep their star man. However, there are reports that the midfielder is currently delaying to sign the new contract with the club, which might force Mauricio Pochetinno to sell him.

Rumour Ratings - 5/10

Erikson joined the Spurs in 2013 and the London club did not win any trophy since his arrival. He is in his prime and will surely be looking to add some medals in his trophy cabinets before retiring.

However, Tottenham might not be interested in signing James Rodriguez given his recent form and injury record and could ask for a straight transfer fee for their superstar.

What's next?

Real Madrid will play Girona next in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals second leg, whereas, the Spurs will be looking to protect their 1-0 advantage from the first leg when they play Chelsea for the reverse leg of the Football League Cup semi-finals on January 25.
