Reports: Real Madrid want Neymar or Kylian Mbappe over two Premier League superstars
What's the story?
With just a few days left in the January transfer window, it is extremely unlikely Real Madrid will make a signing, but Florentino Perez is already busy planning his summer moves to bolster the squad.
According to media outlet, Daily Star, which quoted reputed Spanish journalist, Guillem Balague, who was speaking on 'The Guillem Balague Transfer Show', Los Blancos are hoping they could convince Neymar Jr. or Kylian Mbappe to join them, before turning their sights to Premier League superstars like Eden Hazard and Christian Eriksen.
In case you didn't know...
Neymar joined PSG in a world record deal back in 2017, while Mbappe joined them on loan before completing a permanent switch to Paris Saint-Germain from Monaco. Since their arrival, they have been in sensational form, and have been a major talking point in the footballing world.
Both Neymar and Mbappe's statistics in the current season are staggering. While Neymar has racked up 13 goals and 6 assists in Ligue 1, the 20 year old World Cup winner has 18 goals and same number of assists to his name.
Neymar's exploits in this season's Champions League is worth mentioning, as he was PSG's talisman in the group of death. He scored 5 goals and 2 assists in just 6 appearances, winning the MOTM award in 4 of the fixtures against opponents like Napoli, Liverpool, and Red Star Belgrade.
On the other hand, Real Madrid has endured a downward spiral, which was evident in their poor first half of the current season, attributed to the departure of their record goal-scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo.
The heart of the matter
Los Blancos are in the hunt for a new star man, as they want to build a team around the player. According to the report, one of PSG's attacking duo is their first priority, and they will conclude this before turning to Premier League superstars like Eden Hazard and Christian Eriksen.
Both Eden Hazard and Christian Eriksen's contract run out in 2020, and these two stars have refused to sign contract renewals. Meanwhile, Eden Hazard's dream of playing in Spain is an open secret, and he will hope to realise his 'dream' of playing in Spain soon.
Moreover, PSG are under investigation for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, and might be forced to sell at least one of their superstars in the coming transfer window.
