West Ham United goalkeeper Robert Green has decided to leave the club after 6 years of excellent service during which the 32-year-old made 241 appearances.

West Ham joint chairman David Gold announced on his twitter account:

Robert Green is a free agent, he has chosen to move on. Matthew Upson did the same thing. Nobody wants Rob to leave but nothing is forever, he must do what’s best for him and we must do what’s best for us.

Green joined West Ham from Norwich City for £2m in 2006 and helped the Hammers gain promotion this season. He is currently on international duty with England and is being linked with a plethora of clubs including Tottenham, QPR, West Brom and Spanish side Malaga.

West Ham are now being linked strongly with a move for Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen, who is also out of contract.

Meanwhile, contrary to reports, Norwich chief executive David McNally has denied that the Hammers have made an offer for want away striker Grant Holt. McNally wrote on his twitter account:

Just for the record, we have not received a £4m bid for Grant from West Ham as apparently is being suggested.

Hammers are also in contact with Sunderland‘s Ahmed Elmohamady who admitted his desire to move to the newly promoted club. Elmohamady said:

West Ham are in talks with me. There could be something next week.
