Robert Lewandowski didn’t even need to start the game against Wolfsburg to put 5 goals past their Bundesliga opponents in Bayern Munich’s 5-1 victory at the Allianz Arena. The Bavarians came from behind to thump the visitors who were possibly filled with belief following Galigiuri’s goal in the first half.

Bayern Munich came into the game firm favourites to beat their visiting challengers despite the strength of the men in green. They, however, continued their great start to the season thanks to a stellar showing from Robert Lewandowski in the second half.

Bayern started the game with a front three of Thomas Muller, Mario Gotze and Douglas Costa, one devoid of the Polish striker but few would argue with Pep Guardiola, considering the Spaniard’s tendency for experimentation in the past, however, a few murmurs would have floated about when Bayern went behind in only the 26th minute.

It almost got worse for the home side when sweeper-keeper Manuel Neuer had a heavy touch far from his goal and the ball fell to Josuha Guilavogui near the halfway line but his long range strike would cannon off the post and go out. Things were looking a bit shaky for Guardiola’s men but they managed to go in at half-time only one goal down.

Bayern made 2 changes at half-time, but one of them would make way more impact than Javi Martinez replacing Juan Bernat. Thiago Alcantara;s replacement scored his first goal of the game in the 51st minute and doubled his tally within a minute. Before you even had the chance to process that incredible minute, he had already completed his hattrick within the 54th minute.

Having already given his side a 2 goal cushion, it wasn’t enough for Lewandowski who would find the back of the net again at the 57-minute mark and once more with a stunning volley in the 60th minute to practically seal the game for his team.

The sad bit for Wolfsburg must be that they did not even do much wrong, just that the Bayern striker was in full flow and they just stood by watching while he went about his business and it handed the Bavarians all three points on the day while also putting Lewandowski on top of the Bundesliga goalscoring charts ahead of teammate Thomas Muller and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
