Roberto Martinez confident Fellaini won't leave Everton

Everton’s Marouane Fellaini has been in demand

After his impressive performances last season, Marouane Fellaini has been on the wanted list of many managers. Rumours linked him a to a move to Chelsea even before the 2012/13 season had ended and after the departure of manager David Moyes, it was being said that Fellaini would be his first signing at Manchester United. The tall midfielder is now being linked to a move to Arsenal. But amid all such speculations, new manager Roberto Martinez insisted that Fellaini, 25, would be staying at Everton.

Martinez said: “I don’t think it is an issue.

“You are not talking about a player who is out of the squad or in negotiations with another club. I won’t look to speak to him about this because there is nothing to speak about.

“What I want is him to be ready for the next season, to be ready to take an important role at the club and understand that it is a big season for him.

“As an individual, he has got an exciting year in front of him and I don’t think he is personally thinking, ‘Am I going to be here?’ I don’t think that’s in his head.”

The Belgian international has a £22 million release clause and many clubs in England are happy to meet the Merseyside club’s demand. Martinez however feels that Fellaini is an important player for the club and thinks he will help Everton to improve on their sixth place finish in the league last season.

He said: “It is unstoppable when you have been as successful as Everton have that you will get other teams who want to take your players. That’s normal — it is a football compliment and gets you going more. But, in this case, it’s not an issue.”
