West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke has confirmed that Romelu Lukaku is set to return to his parent club Chelsea at the end of the season. He is currently at the Hawthorns for a loan spell, during which he impressed many, scoring 13 goals in the Premier League, the highlight of it being that several of those goals were after coming on as a substitute.

Clarke had hoped that Chelsea would sanction Lukaku’s loan for another season with the Baggies, but Chelsea have left him disappointed, suggesting that they will be requiring the youngster’s services next term. The 19-year old Belgian played his debut season for the Stamford Bridge-based team, after which he was loaned out to West Brom.

“He is Chelsea’s player. He belongs to Chelsea and he will go back there in the summer,” Clarke told the Daily Mirror.

Clarke, however, went on to thank Chelsea for giving the impressive forward a chance to reach the peak of his game and prove his mettle at another club. He felt that Chelsea will definitely benefit from his experience at the Hawthorns, citing that it would have been hard for him initially to find a place in the first XI of the Blues.

I have never thought it would be possible Chelsea would let him come back next season, he came on a season-long loan and we’re grateful we got him,” the West Brom manager concluded.
