Meanwhile, a LaLiga defender has left the Catalans. Elsewhere, Frenkie de Jong is close to renewing his contract at Camp Nou.

Lenglet arrived at Camp Nou in 2018 from Sevilla and made 160 appearances during his time with the Catalans. The 29-year-old spent last season on loan with Atletico Madrid and performed quite impressively under Diego Simeone.

However, it wasn't enough to convince Flick. Lenglet had two years left on his contract but has reached a mutual agreement with the club to terminate the deal. The report states that he has waived his full wages, worth €16 million, which will create much-needed salary space for the Blaugrana.

In a statement on their website, the LaLiga champions thanked the Frenchman for his services.

“FC Barcelona and the first team player Clement Lenglet have reached an agreement for the termination of the contract linking the two parties. FC Barcelona would like to publicly thank Clement Lenglet for his commitment and dedication and wish him all the best for the future.”

Atletico Madrid have since announced that the player has signed permanently with the club until 2028.

However, speaking to DAZN, Romano insisted that De Jong wants to stay.

“I think De Jong is going to stay at Barcelona. The player is super comfortable and super happy at Barça. He has even spoken publicly about this idea he has of staying at Barça, of renewing his contract,” said Romano.

He continued:

“There is a lot of talk in Spain about the possibility of him changing agent, that’s why the renewal. Let’s see what happens with this. But from what they tell me, from the player’s side, he is very keen to stay at Barça, very comfortable with Hansi Flick. There is a huge likelihood of seeing Frenkie de Jong renew his contract in the coming weeks, or months.”

Galatasaray have entered the race to sign Marc-Andre ter Stegen this summer, according to Fotomac. The German goalkeeper's future at Camp Nou remains unclear following Barcelona's pursuit of Espanyol star Joan Garcia.

The Turkish side is looking for a replacement for Fernando Muslera and has apparently identified Ter Stegen as an option. However, the 33-year-old reportedly wants to stay at Camp Nou.
