Chelsea are allegedly expected to launch a move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike after potentially finalising a deal to sign Ipswich Town star Liam Delap.
The Blues, who lifted the UEFA Conference League trophy after defeating Real Betis earlier this Wednesday, are likely to bolster their ranks soon. In a bid to better their chances of winning more trophies, they are believed to be on the hunt for new forwards.
According to reputed journalist David Ornstein, Chelsea have received a boost in their pursuit of Delap with the striker keen to join the Blues. They are set to activate the former Manchester City man's £30 million release clause in the near future.
Now, as per Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea are likely to continue pushing for a deal to lure Ekitike away from Frankfurt despite a potential Delap transfer. They are in concrete talks with Frankfurt right now as they want to complete a deal before Liverpool launch a move.
Ekitike, who reportedly has a £84 million price tag, relished a fine season at Frankfurt in the 2024-25 term. The 22-year-old Frenchman scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 matches across competitions for his club this campaign.
Ex-Blues star makes Chelsea transfer admission
Speaking recently to Metro, ex-Blues midfielder Claude Makelele urged his former club to make smart investments this summer. He said:
"The players who arrive in the summer need to be Chelsea players, with the mentality and the knowledge of the history of the club. Don't change too much because they have a good quality squad and a manager working in a way. The most important thing is stability and that will make the team come back to fighting in the Premier League and the Champions League next season."
Makelele, who helped the Blues lift two Premier League titles, added:
"But they need players who are ready for that step up. There are plenty of teams with squads already ready to compete in multiple competitions, and Chelsea need to add that experience. The season is so long and you also want to fight for the Premier League and the FA Cup as well. They need to compete in these competitions so you need a squad that is stronger and wiser."
The Blues won their first silverware in three years earlier on Wednesday.
On the other hand, the Stamford Bridge club finished fourth in the 2024-25 Premier League standings with 69 points from 38 league matches.
