Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams has emerged as a transfer target for Serie A club Fiorentina ahead of the summer, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web.

La Viola have qualified for the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League and the Coppa Italia. However, their performances in Serie A have left much to be desired as they are 11th in the standings with two games remaining. The Florence-based club finished seventh with 62 points last term, but can only earn a maximum of 56 points this time.

Fiorentina are determined to improve their weaknesses this summer as they look to push further up the table next season. They have identified left-back as an area that needs strengthening, although they have Cristiano Biraghi and Aleksa Terzic.

According to the aforementioned source, La Viola have set their sights on signing Manchester United's Williams. The Serie A club could reportedly sign the full-back on loan with an option to buy him for €5 million.

Williams' contract with the Red Devils runs until the end of next season, but he could renew the deal before moving to Fiorentina. As per the said report, the Englishman earns €1 million a year in wages.

The Manchester United defender spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Norwich City. He made 26 Premier League appearances for the Canaries, but could not help them avoid relegation.

Although Williams, 22, returned to Old Trafford ahead of this season, he has only amassed five minutes of first-team action. He missed the first half of the season due to an injury and has featured on the bench seven times in the Premier League since December.

The English giants have Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot as full-back options. Hence, a move away from Old Trafford could entice Williams, who is likely to remain on the fringes of Erik ten Hag's team next term.

Manchester United are edging closer to signing Serie A star

Manchester United are keen to bolster their backline this summer. They are keen to add a new central defender to their ranks with Harry Maguire expected to leave. Erik ten Hag has thus reportedly set his sights on signing Napoli's Kim Min-jae.

The Naples-based club signed Kim from Turkish giants Fenerbahce for €18 million last summer. The defender has since been a key player for Gli Azzurri, making 44 appearances across competitions. He also played a starring role in the team's Serie A triumph.

There are suggestions that the Red Devils are closing in Kim's signing. The English giants are prepared to trigger the €65 million release clause in the South Korean international's contract. They are also planning to give him a deal worth €9 million a year.
