Joshua Zirkzee is ready to leave Manchester United following Ruben Amorim's arrival, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The report adds that Juventus are planning a temporary move for the Dutchman in January.
Zirkzee arrived at Old Trafford this summer from Bologna on a reported £36.5m deal. He enjoyed a blistering start to life with the Red Devils, scoring on his debut off the bench against Fulham on opening day.
However, the 23-year-old is yet to find the back of the net since, and has just one goal and two assists from 18 games this season. Manchester United sacked Erik ten Hag at the end of October and have appointed Amorim as his replacement.
The former Sporting manager has deployed his 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford in his first two games. Zirkzee came off the bench against Ipswich last weekend for the final 22 minutes. He was an unused substitute against Bodo/Glimt in midweek in the Europa League.
With Rasmus Hojlund scoring a brace against the Norwegian side, the lone striker position at Red Devils now belongs to the Dane. Zirkzee is understandably unsettled and is now ready to leave.
The player could push for a reunion with Thiago Motta at Turin in January. Zirkzee scored 12 goals and set up seven more from 37 games across competitions last campaign at Bologna under Motta.
A return to familiar surroundings could help him regain his mojo. Manchester United could be open to a move as it could help improve his transfer value.
How has Manchester United performed under Ruben Amorim?
Ruben Amorim took charge at Manchester United on November 11, 2024. The Portuguese head coach took charge of the Red Devils for the first time against Ipswich Town last Sunday, November 24, in the league.
Amorim enjoyed a blistering start to the game, with Marcus Rashford finding the back of the net in the second minute. However, Omari Hutchinson scored the equalized just before the break and the game ended 1-1.
The Portuguese's second game in charge of Manchester United was against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday, November 28, at Old Trafford. Once again, the Premier League giants took an early lead, with Alejandro Garnacho scoring in the first minute.
The visitors, however, scored two quickfire goals, in the 19th and 23rd minutes, to take a 2-1 lead. Rasmus Hojlund helped the Red Devils get back into the game in the 45th minute and scored the winner five minutes after the break.
