Pl club keen on signing Lionel Messi's Inter Miami teammate - Reports

Lionel Messi's Inter Miami teammate Diego Gomez could be on his way to England to play in the Premier League, with West Ham interested in his services. The young midfielder has enjoyed playing alongside Messi, leading the Herons to the top of the Supporters' Shield in the MLS.

According to reports coming out of Paraguay, Diego Gomez has been linked to West Ham, who wish to sign the 21-year-old on a full transfer this summer. The report from Versus (via GOAL) has claimed that the Hammers are eyeing up the Paraguayan, who has been out injured recently, but could return to the starting lineup in less than a few weeks.

Gomez has played nine games in the MLS this season, scoring twice and providing one assist. The 21-year-old midfielder notably has five goal contributions in all competitions this season, which could likely have attracted West Ham to his quality and budding potential.

The Inter Miami midfielder will not be the first player to switch from the MLS to the Premier League. Fellow Paraguayan Miguel Almiron moved from Atlanta United to Newcastle United, where he has played a minimum of 30 league games in the last five seasons.

Colombian forward Jhon Duran also made the switch from Chicago to Aston Villa after one season in the MLS. He has since spent two seasons with the club, notably scoring two goals within three minutes against Liverpool as a substitute in May 2024.

Wayne Rooney picks Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has picked Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo in response to the long-time debate about who the better player is. Both superstars have racked up 13 years of the Ballon d'Or title between each other, holding a duopoly on the award for the better part of the last decade.

Wayne Rooney spoke about the duo with former United teammate Gary Neville on The Overlap, revealing that Lionel Messi was his choice over Ronaldo (via Inter Miami News):

“I think Messi, he’s the best ever. I get a lot of stick for saying Messi where it’s as if, ‘How can you say Messi, it’s Ronaldo.’ I understand that people can say Messi, people can say Ronaldo – they are both incredible, probably the best two players to ever play the game."
"For me, Messi has just got that little bit more flair, which I like in a player, so that’s the reason.”

This may come as a surprise, especially because Wayne Rooney played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United, and both players are club legends. He never did play alongside Inter Miami star Lionel Messi, who spent most of his career at Barcelona.
