Rumor: Real Madrid keen on signing Ashley Cole on a two year contract

Cole is set to leave Chelsea this season

Outgoing Chelsea stalwart Ashley Cole may find himself with a new club sooner than he imagined as La Liga giants Real Madrid are prepared to offer him a two year deal.

Cole has lost his place at Chelsea to Cesar Azpilicueta, who is originally a right-back, and recently annouced via Twitter that he will almost certainly leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

John Terry has signed a new one year deal and Frank Lampard is set to sign a new contract but Blues boss Jose Mourinho does not fancy Cole in the left-back role as Azpilicueta has been a revelation in that position.

Cole, who recently announced his retirement from international football after being excluded from Roy Hodgson’s England World Cup squad, has attracted interest from Liverpool and Manchester City but may want to move to Madrid to work with Carlo Ancelotti who managed him at Chelsea from 2009 to 2011.

The 33-year-old has always wanted to play in Spain and may take Real Madrid up on their offer as he will be able to play with a world class club even though he is in the twilight of his career.
